The Piedmont is a region of rolling and forested hills. It is located between the Coastal Plain and the Appalachian Mountains and has prominent ridges and hills. The Piedmont is well drained by the rivers flowing into the Coastal Plain or South Carolina.
Settlements
Settlers in North Carolina usually stayed in the Coastal Plain region because the waterfalls and rivers discouraged settlement into the Piedmont region. However, once they started migrating, they came in large numbers. The area of the Piedmont was very useful for mills and farms.
