Geography
The Coastal Plain is a gently rolling, swampy tidewater area close to the coastline of North Carolina. It is the first region that was explored and settled by the Colonists. The Coastal Plain also has a chain of islands that extend from Virginia to South Carolina called the Outer Banks. There are 3 capes named Hatteras, Lookout, and Fear which are referred to as the "graveyard of the Atlantic" because many ships have sunk there.

Originally, Native Americans were settled here, however, the Europeans started pushing them back. Many slaves were brought here too. The first colony in this region was the Albemarle colony.
